This was once a very popular French form and dates from the Middle Ages. It is written in quatrains (four lines of poetry)
which includes a Refrain B, (A repeat line, phrase, or word), and as is normal with French poetry it
is syllabic (in this case eight syllables, English - "Tetrameter") to make up a quatrain rhyming thus: a. a. b. B..... c. c. b. B... etc each quatrain finishing with the same line, phrase or word (Refrain). Here is a very enjoyable example by John Payne:
As an alternative however, a rhyme may be used using alternate line rhyme and so would end up with a pattern of: a. b. a. B...... c. b. c. B. Constructing this poem the poet has quite a choice, and another alternative is for the second OR third line not rhyme at all, then it ends up with: a. X. a. B.....or.... a. b. X. B.

Maryse Achong![]() "Oui the frog sits on a miniature motorcycle in the eastern beach town of Pattaya January 10, 2008. Oui's owner says Oui loves playing with human toys and posing for photographs. " Amphibian a Go Go I’m an action amphibian, Can go as fast as any man, Hells Angels have nothing on me, I ride the highways wild and free. You ought to see me do a stunt, Please forgive me if I am blunt, I do an excellent wheelie; I ride the highways wild and free. Sometimes I wear leather and chains, Other times I don’t take the pains, No laws against my nudity, I ride the highways wild and free. I am well known both near and far, In my own right I am a star, Just ask anyone about “Oui,” I ride the highways wild and free. ----- ![]() Fiona the Frog I’m Fiona a modern frog I have my own website and blog, My pretty smile, I’d like to share, Can’t help it that I’m gorgeous dear! Lorainne DafneyIn winter I waltz with my rake It leads me and I let it take Control of my emotions As I succumb to its potion We glide across the sleeping ground Twirling and circling all around We dare to make a commotion As I succumb to its potion There's magical music we hear It only plays this time of year For gardeners with devotion As I succumb to its potion back to list |
Souls EaseAnother day is done at last, each day now seems to go so fast... For now, my dues have all been paid, at peace, I watch the sunset fade. Contented with my earthly lot, I settle in my favoured spot and watch the light play in the glade, at peace, I. Watch the sunset fade. in hues of red and gold, it flows across the shrubs, the tall dog-rose, illuminates each leaf and blade; at peace, I watch. The sunset fade. deprives the world of warmth and light, and yet the scene is etched so bright within my mind, it is displayed... At peace, I watch the sunset fade. -----

Lori MartinWhen I walk my fat thighs jiggle and my bum, oh my!, does wiggle; it does not matter I’m not slim, I am a beautiful woman. Sometimes a lady, circumspect, insist on treatment with respect; for even when my hair’s undone, I am a beautiful woman. A load of smarts, I’m funny too; I can hammer though prefer to screw; can hold my own against any man, I am a beautiful woman. My eyes, they’ll glow with raw desire, my body burn with passion’s fire, hot and sexy when I’ve a whim, I am a beautiful woman. Thankful for these gifts received, care about those with less than me, generous, loving, do what I can, I am a beautiful woman. My soul has been described as old, within my breast beats heart of gold, I am secure with who I am, I am a beautiful woman. -----

Ryter RoethicleI found a bird with a broken wing Each morning I had heard her sing Then I heard her song no more She was lying broken on the floor Her lovely song silenced by pain Would she ever sing again Anchored by pain, dying to soar I found her broken on the floor I loved and cared and again she flew And as she soars her song is new To greater heights now she’ll soar No longer broken on the floor ----- Cycles We travel through our lives Each day we leave our mark or brand Like truck wheels on the virgin plains Or footprints in the fresh beach sand The wind will always raise the grass Each new tide will refresh the strand Then we will come with another pass Or footprints in the fresh beach sand The fields we have planted today Will ripen slowly and expand Each harvest simply man at play Like footprints in the fresh beach sand So the seasons wax and wane Then once more we become the land So the cycle begins again Like footprints in the fresh beach sand ----- Dichotomy Because of fate we must live apart Seizing each moment of each day Knowing now what is in my heart Fate has said it must be this way. Tempering souls whilst separate With other souls we stop and play Because of fate we must live apart Fate has said it must be this way. Drawing strength, learning the art Treating life as if we are in a play Or what is on the muses chart Fate has said it must be this way. ----- Evensong The beach sand has such memories Not just the days activities, But lovers walking by moonlight You and I on this starry night. Holding hands as we tread the sand And talk of things as yet unplanned Where feelings grow without the light You and I on this starry night. Stop and savour the evening breeze Love words echoed from nearby trees As slowly restrained passions ignite You and I on this starry night. Night birds echoes the lovers cries Night wind echoes with its sighs Lovers lie entwined in delight You and I on this starry night. ----- Heart of Stone Every night I cut out my heart Making promises to you alone. In the morning its full again Bouncing back from your heart of stone. What can I say, what can I do? I though you knew, I thought Id shown My beliefs, how I had been hurt Bouncing back from your heart of stone. Am I a fool to carry on? Laughing!! Common sense must have flown Out the door on meeting you, then Bouncing back from your heart of stone. But no, stupidity is not rare And like love a capricious bone, That any dog will toss and catch Bouncing back from your heart of stone. ----- Just Below Sit on the beach with me tonight On the warm sands neath starry skies And I will kiss thee in moonlight Just below where Capricorn lies. The stars will smile, but what is new What they see tonight is no surprise For this has always been their view Just below where Capricorn lies. Young loves, old loves have made it so. Love does not recognise ages prize It exists where they choose to go Just below where Capricorn lies. But you and I have met again And love to us is no surprise Perhaps sounding an old refrain Just below where Capricorn lies. ----- Just One Look Would that smile invite a single kiss Even more with just one single touch? Nay much more’s offered with all this One single glance betrays so much. The dimpled cheeks, the flashing eyes The reddened face and sudden clutch, That now coy look could not disguise One single glance betrays so much. Former barriers have been torn down Now with passion you like to brush And fashions now a flimsy gown One single glance betrays so much. ----- A Sailors Death And only the sea shall know them The ocean depth will be their grave The wind will tug the wet shrouds hem Like farewell flags, the waters wave. There is no church with bells to ring No flowers cover the hallowed site Nor choir with caring hymns to sing Like farewell flags, the waters wave. Neptune has claimed them all And to his bosom they are gone Till Armageddon makes the final call Then welcome flags, the waters wave. ----- Sands of Time Gone are the care-free days of youth Gone are the days when word was proof. Once gentle age, no more sublime Washed away by sands of time. You not Fate chose where to go Angels only advised, yes or no. Watching the roads you chose to climb Washed away by sands of time. Some are born with a silver spoon Others perish before its noon Each life another pantomime Washed away by sands of time. ----- Sweet Thunder Oh such sweet thunder as we kiss My heart pounding, loudly thumping Our lips meet in heavenly bliss My heart beating, wildly beating. So closely pressing against me Feeling your heart madly pulsing We are overcome with the heat My heart beating, wildly beating. Oh the thunder as we unite Madly beating, bodies thrusting Breath gasping locked in loves old rite My heart beating, wildly beating. Such sweet thunder, still united Vowing love, just lightly stroking From passion we have descended My heart beating, wildly beating. back to list |
Dinah SerritelliI was never much of a sage, But know so well at this my age As through my memories I drift, Clarity of thought is a gift. Though through troubled waters I swam, It’s good to know I was…I am Just knowing this is quite a lift Clarity of thought is a gift. Steeped in the knowledge my life is Not mine at all…for it is His, As through remembrances I sift Clarity of thought is a gift. back to list |
