2008 Form Challenges

#22 Etheree

Similar to the Cinquain and the Rictameter, the Etheree is a ten line form ascending in syllable count for ten unrhymed lines. It's attributed to an American poet, Etheree Taylor Armstrong of Arkansas. An Etheree should focus on one idea or subject. Confirming what has been said giving us a syllable count of:

Was needed
Before I fell
In love with this form.
The challenge of writing
Ten lines of absolute crap
Or Metaphysical magic
Depends on the poets writing skills
Not on the Hallmarker types approval.

The Etheree is a very flexible poetry form and lends itself to the writer's creativity. One alternative is the Reverse Etheree where there is a reverse count down:
10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1.
Further to this is the Double Etheree starting with a Normal Etheree, then adding a Reverse. An alternative to that, is the Double starting with a Reverse Etheree, thus creating a wine glass or sand timer effect, and so the permutation grows. You must agree this promises to be a very interesting and challenging form.
Clover Days

The
clovers
of our youth
were dreams hidden
in the green of our
innocence. Wishes were
three leafs in abundance and
every now and then we found a
four in the luck of our dreams come true
and the green clovers tinged gold as we grew.
Nature's first green was a clover of dream
in innocence of childhood wonder.
We searched for four and found something
more in the gold of our dreams
come true and as we grow
though we went separate
ways, we recall
the green of
clover
days.

Or worse to wring somebody's neck
But then I think that perhaps they too

Go back to those who have
Passed on and to others who

plucked fresh as daisies in June
mirrored artist's vision and dreams.

painting conceived brainstormed rainbow presence.

She,
ruling
sovereign;
royal chaplet
repose upon crowns,
monarch's regal pageant.

Eagle eyes watching, await;
penance, of love's expectant kiss;
from her champion, brave knyght erraunt.

Sire, won her commanding royal favours,
noble lord; obeisances monarch's throne,
wanders lands; on her perilous quest.

Serviced favours, grace regal queen,
honoured noble shows courage,
loyal hope endures pain;
faithful the rapture,
oath acquiesced
bears promise;
sworn to
her

divine
Pagan rite.
Ritual feast
gathering kin folk
as waning year closes
Singing tales from ages past
we hail the Holly King tonight.
Wassail the Pagan folk, merry meet,
peaceful blessings in the lady's silver light.

This place

How much is missed
The greatest Santa
That ever wore a cap
Red and white, with jolly laughs
A merrier twinkling of eyes
That promised that Santa would be there
Christmas Eve forever, forevermore.

Oh
Christmas
Tree of green...
Spruce, Fir and Scotch,
The best of which is
Probably Carolina
Though most popular is Balsam
For it holds more than traditions
But keeps it's decor better than all,
Bells, bulbs, garlands, icicles galore!

Yes,
There's time.
No there's naught
But a rhyme suite,
Petite Mort of love's
Dove sitting on a sill
Still as a held breath in mime
Of a clock that stopped to dong
A song of peace where joy can't be found,
Just the sounds of forever... instead.

Overdue

Leave
Take life,
Acorns seed
New trees to last
Many lifetimes,
While we scurry about
Forsaking their silent dreams,
Sweeping away leaf and grasses
Cutting down forests and shooting hawks,
What grand gods we at to make others pay.
