#23 Cornish Sonnet

At the same time as travelers were influencing the courts and introducing the sonnet form to England, France and Spain, traders in the southern ports of England were also bringing in their own forms of poetry. These forms consisted of hybrid poetry influenced by those Arab traders who plied their trade with the ports along the Mediterranean and the tin mines of Cornwall. It is only natural that they would come into contact with the sonnet form and in time come up with a fusion of that form This sonnet form is similar to the hybrid poetry that emerged from that part of the world.
The form consists of two, three couplets stanzas and a refrain made up of the first line of each stanza.
A. b. a. c. b. c.... D. e. d. f. e. f.... A. D.
As an alternative, the last line can be used and gives a rhyme pattern of
a. b. a. c. b. C.... d. e. d. f. e. F.... C. F.
Although purists state all sonnets should be Iambic Pentameter, any meter or line length may be used, as long as all the lines are of similar length and meter.
Adagio

Sadness filters through me
Sitting listening and I feel
Somehow you are where I should be
Again I am not there with you
Yet everything about is real
Tell me please, what are we to do?
What is our final destiny?
Shall Fate alone be in control?
The music is an entity
But just like life it has a twist
Crescendo then a final roll
As we disappear in the mist
Sadness filters through me
What is our final destiny?

Love 'Ain't' All They Need

Love is the answer, so the experts say,
Love is the key that opens any door,
And love is missing in this world today,
But sometimes love alone is not enough.
And problems that we face need something more,
Or else the going can become too rough.
They preach our youth have strayed through lack of love,
But maybe what they need is discipline,
And the certainty they are not above
The law; and that they will be made to pay
For their crimes; then they'll see this is a win
Or lose game, and they decide how to play.
Love is the answer so the experts say
They preach our youth have strayed through lack of love.

New Year Intrusions

As the New Year approaches I am filled
With memories, emotions, swirling round
My head and heart they refuse to be stilled
The year's happenings parade through my head
Engulfing me with feelings most profound,
With these instrusive thoughts, though I'm strong willed,
I'm powerless, they've set up house in me;
They break me down as quickly as they build
Me upů almost like riding a seesaw;
I pray they won't leave behind much debris,
Or open old wounds, leave them tender, raw.
As the New Year approaches I am filled
With these intrusive thoughts though I'm strong willed..

Chains of Goodbye

Between you both I flicker, your eyes gaze,
Music plays softly, though only I hear
I dance amongst your love's enchanted haze
With gentle whispers, you say "I love you"
Your hands clasp, bringing you both ever near
Such beauty has graced my table for two
Your anniversary of wedded bliss
The fizz, as champagne pours in crystal flutes
An aroma of passion as lips kiss,
Your love for each other, so true I see
My flame smiles warmth, as you both I salute
This delight of love you have shared with me
Such beauty has graced my table for two
This delight of love you have shared with me

Come Walk With Me

Come! Walk with me in the moonlight
Together let us make more memories
Just you and I, this wondrous night.
Holding hands as we cross the beach
Listening to gentle surf made noises
That surpasses the power of speech.
Possessing many secrets hidden by time
Beaches share them only with the sea
Spoken by lovers in moments so sublime
As waves whisper back to them in the night
Saying "Your secret is safe with me,
You can speak of your love, it's alright".
Come! Walk with me in the moonlight
You can speak of your love, it's alright.

Destined love

I have known you from the first
Badly wounded, I was lying there
You gave me water for my thirst
Nursed me and finally lay with me
But always you showed me care
Sharing life throughout eternity.
Many lives we've shared you and I
Some good, some bad, that's fate
Sharing our love under many a sky
Lessons we have to learn I know
Have been easier with you my mate
And helping our spirit to grow.
Sharing life throughout eternity
And helping our spirit to grow.

In Dreams Again

In dreams again, I kiss your lips
Knowing you can no longer feel me
Nor feel the touch of my fingertips
As I can no longer feel your heat.
But I remember what used to be,
How strong your heart used to beat.
For just a while we must be apart.
Missing those morning kisses,
Yet somehow I can feel your heart.
Is it somehow now part of mine,
That my soul tells me what it misses,
Needing to merge once more with thine?
In dreams again, I kiss your lips
For a while we must be apart.

Kith and Kin

Daughters and sons are delights offered to us
We love and play and encourage each one
They in time move on, it has always been thus.
Then they themselves have their own brood
And proud grandparents see what they began
Watching siblings carry out their little feud.
Each one looks like they are the same line
Having the name and almost look the same
Inside the workings can be a different design.
Outside lively but inside just a torment
Whilst others treat life as if it were a game
And the happy ones who are always content.
Heh Daughters and sons are delights offered to us
Each one looks like they are the same line.

Needs
I always find this time of year
To be the most trying time of all.
Spring has left us without any fear
Summers heat now drives all forms of life.
Wherein all creation desires rain to fall
Without it there is naught but strife.
When autumn comes there's no relief
April showers are nought but a dream
Whilst winter robs the heat like a thief.
For nine long years it has been the same
With nature testing all to the extreme
And we're still left needing more rain.
Without it there is naught but strife.
And we're still left needing more rain.

Obama

What will the New Year bring this time
A record in road deaths for this small state
Or an increase in violence and juvenile crime?
Knifings and bashings caused by bored youth
One wonders about what really does await
And how long will governments ignore truth.
The new president elect will affect us all
Sparky, bean counter, old fashioned plumber
And others who can't afford any further to fall.
Houses being devalued there's so much to fear
Lets hope there's a saviour named Obama
That through him we'll have a better New Year.
What will the New Year bring this time
The new president elect will affect us all.

Solitary Lover

I see you lit by my lamp at twilight
Looking at your form in the dusk.
The light from your soul is bright
Reflecting out from sparkling eyes.
Your subtle scent is that of musk
As softly a night creature cries.
My solitary dreams, they are of thee.
Thy lips in dreams sweeter than wine
In shadows outlined deep I see
The bitter taste of your absence
Make affirmations you are mine
Louder still by the present silence.
I see you lit by my lamp at twilight
My solitary dreams, they are of thee.

X The Unknowing

How many dreams has there to be
Until we finally hear of one death?
A dream has died, tis hardly a spree,
Why give up dreaming because of one?
One might as well give up each breath
Why give up, the adventure has begun?
When it starts, the journey that is life
We learn of love at our mother's breasts
Hopefully with that love there is no strife.
Sometimes love fails and we are hurt
But this is only another of life's tests
For nothing in life is ever a cert.
Why give up, the adventure has begun?
For nothing in life is ever a cert.

New Year's Eve

Within loud fireworks' bright, coloured clouds,
New Year had just been born- two thousand nine.
She wanders aimlessly among the crowd,
watching how eyes reflect the coloured stars
as people rais their faces, search for signs,
while light from heaven eases old year's scars.
In magic moments, as time seems to halt,
new vows are made to better future ways,
some will be forgotten, some will exalt.
When lights grow dimmer, people return home,
their voices quiet, after night's display.
Above, still lingering smoke forms misty domes
within loud firework's bright, coloured clouds-
in magic moments, as time seems to halt.

When you fell, I fell with you,
Head long into feelings and desires.
Volcanic meeting of chocolate and dew,
Lava of hearts and rivers of spice
Taking us where love may conspire
And by it's ways became enticed.
One touch beget the rest,
Believing fate guided our stars,
They too shone the brighter at our behest
Though we outshone them,
Creating river eddy, just ours,
Twinkling with afterglow like gems.
When you fell, I fell with you,
With one touch begot the rest.

New Year Glooms

New Years brings little joy nor hopes
Hopes that life will change for better,
Better to treat each year as slopes
Slopes downhill that never go up,
Upwards run our age and fetter
Fettered process of death's cup.
Champagne cups bring little to raise
Raise us up with falser feelings
Feelings in a brew cause some praise
Praise of yore's and futures glimmer
Lighter than the truth of knowing
Knowing vision just grows dimmer.
New Years brings little joy nor hopes
Hopes that life will change for better.

Renewed Faith

Renewal is possible now.
Dawn lasts longer, as twilight's do
And daylight comes more into view,
Less the nights spent hibernating
For a new year allows us to
See a nicer more rosy Spring.
Springs approach inspires new projects,
To put away the older loom
Pick up a fresh weave to do next
As life's designs suddenly cheer
We take it's reins back from the gloom,
Thus happiness does soon appear.
See a nicer more rosy Spring
Thus happiness does soon appear.
