2008 Form Challenges

Sonnetina Due
A most aptly named Sonnetina (Due - Two), (Ten line poem), perhaps the most obvious way to build any form would be by
using couplets, and what is not appreciated is the ability to make each stanza stand alone on it's own merits.

Maryse AchongI sit alone and let my thoughts run wild, I am a girl again, a happy child; I am a teen, convinced I know it all, A young woman caught up in love's first thrall. Life's ups and downs assail me still I stand, Though there are times I am on shifting sand. The years have flown, that girl has gone away, The woman I became is here today. I know not what the future holds for me But in His hands I place it willingly. ----- Forgive Me Pretty, successful, mother, wife, A happy woman most would say, Yet this woman took her own life In a bizarre and tragic way. "Forgive me," were the words she wrote, A message to those left behind, Stuck on her brakes, this little note; What thoughts were going through her mind? What grief so deep she could not share Pain so intense she could not bear. back to list |
Lorainne DafneyBefore me colors that please my eyes, as I watch the gentle butterflies. Do not laugh at the poor and meek, instead guide them towards what they should seek. Find happiness in all that you do and make it more contagious from you. Don't forget, there are children that need to be loved and be taught how to read. Love every minute of your life here- keep your treasures from memories dear. back to list |
Bruce HendersonThe waking flower in the morning Sun forgets the shuteyed night it left behind Whatever terror crept along its stem is washed away with morning's cleansing dew It has no need for shadowed symmetry to see the world in punctual relief What aspiration need a flower crave when dreams are pollinated from the sky It merely opens up its trusting eyes and soaks up all the beauty of the light back to list |
Maureen MoonchildSeasons keep changing in this corner's view, Coloring emotions that help guide one through. There's the negative that fosters from dreamless desires. And the insight that flowers as each morning transpires. There's the rose that has dried but reminds me of then When fantasy "became" and reached out once again To the warmth of soft meanings, where the want was in hold. It was there in the silence, where the message was told: That tomorrow is always and the never fades out, Leaving hope in this corner, in a world beyond doubt. back to list |
Peggy Nelson![]() Ghost Train The ghost train is wanting down yonder road Reaching out and taking Peke away from pains hold No need to pack Peke earthly material items, the Gods are more precious and loving than them Last look at destruction. unearthly decaying Last chance to see what ignorance is revealing Peke you've done your best and give it your all Your trust, your thoughts out weigh hells law The last Ghost train ride; heaven bound Peke searched each day Hop on board you've earned your ticket; out of hell today… ----- Magical I went to the carnival with magical mirrors ;-) Oh, so dark and spooky; no ones inside here? =:-O I followed the glowing white thin line in fear = : O Here's the story of the Magical Mirrors ;-# I finally reached the first shining glass .-\ I took a peek and I looked quit unique :-) I took off my red dress, looking fine and sleek *-) I heard a voice whisper wow...fine tight Arse ;-) I was smiling and grinning I looked real great ;-) I was praying the next mirror would tell me more ;-) Part 2 I left completely exposed, where was loving mate? >-( I ran to the next mirror...wide eyed hoping to score ;-) Seeing the image of the body of me :-# Geesh, what a mess I didn't want to see -( What happened to my body, now covered in fat :-(( sagging boobs and cottage cheese legs fat, fat, fat! :-[ bowing head to the floor, I read the message. last mirror ahead, : ( it will lift you spirits and leave you totally thankful for who you are : ) Quickly I moved to the Last mirror for God was there to admire ;-) He sighed; Ah! your soul is the treasure and pleasure desire ;-))) ----- Well I'll Be Dammed I've grown old and thoughts are dammed My mind's a bitter stagnant jammed up dam In younger years thoughts rush and flow With laughter, joys and most of all loves glow Will I ever be free from the tugging, lingering sore And peacefully rest in the arms of love once more? Stuck and frozen in pains grasping clutch From winters painful and bitter touch Once fiercely fighting the bitter dams flurry To weak I've lost the battle, death's the only cure! back to list |
Ryter RoethicleSilent tears fall down my face There is no one to understand my place. It's a place of solitude with so much around. Yet no-one would know just by the sound? The beings there all lie sentient now Uncared for, ignored, yet alive somehow. Yes! Aware and alive and still with form For what is memory but a previous norm? Opening my toybox after all this time I see memories covered in dust and grime. Those within saw my look and my shame, They knew of my life, I was not to blame. So I spoke with, Kanga and Wambi again, Sat down with my friends, there was no strain. So we sat and talked all through the night By the following morn everything was alright. ----- Earthy Thoughts A falling star streaks above the Earth The trail behind it heralding its death. The scent so strong speaks of its decay And smells of all that winter takes away. The ending that started the beginning Is merely Fate sat at a wheel spinning A rising star awakes across the Earth A sight of wonder as the day gives birth. The scent of freshness and new born life Gives man hope for freedom from strife. ----- First Moon When she said "Love" the first time There was trembling in her words. I wished, "If only time came and went Spent forever with her in my arms. Looking at the beauty of the moon, Kissing for always those tasty lips. This peace and wonderment attained I feel connected through space and time. It is made all the more wondrous Because I'm sharing it with her. ----- I am the Wind I am the wind that whispers in the still of night, Making the rain dance softly against the window, Changing to the winter gale that hastens flight Freezing the earth and turning rain into snow. Inducing horizontal ice arrows to nip and bite That in the shelter of home causes skin to glow. Gazing out you see the entity that is part of me Living proof that man is subject to my will. Know that his conceit is only what I permit to be And that in time, he will have to pay the bill. ----- No one believes A man and a woman fell in love at the fair Strangers at first, but in time, so much maire. Och aye, and she was bonny and fair of face And he was handsome and his pulse did race. So they wed and bided in their house together She blossomed maire than flowers wi the heather. In time bore bairns blue of eye and red of hair But fate had controlled how they had met unaware. Misery was never a thing that they knew With the years all they touched happiness grew. No-one believes good things can happen Take time out, believe, leave your minds open. Happily, Jock and Jess would strongly deny And state strongly, misery is a corporate lie. He would lift his kilt and show his arse To think that such stupid beliefs could pass. But Jess, a lady with much more aplomb Would call gently over to her nearest son. With a smile designed to light up humanity You realise good things are what should be. ----- Palestinian Truth The tears she sheds are more than any tide This new widow, who was a brand new bride. For what fate gives she sometimes takes away This young widowed lass, was a bride today. But some people do not think as free as we With some faiths believe mixing cannot be. So the innocent pledge to lover forever Made evil men state, "this can't happen EVER" So she sits there weeping on the beach Realising true love for now is out of reach. ----- She comes deliciously She comes deliciously after wine See her in peace, see her divine. Laying there smiling in love I know And all her beauty in that afterglow I watch her sleep, see her content Knowing that to me she's meant. How brave to say that she is mine I know she is tastier than any wine. I am content to be part of her serenity And of the afterglow created by she. ----- Silent Woods I cannot cry to release my sorrow Instead I shrug and wait the morrow. There is nought left now but memory And what is that, but what used to be. Death is no lonely stranger to me now Nor one with whom friendships grow. Life is now a careful measure that I allow And only rarely let my true feelings show. In my solitude I can relive lost dreams In silent woods no-one hears screams. ----- Under Autumn Skies Under the early autumn half moon There is promise but results are naught. The ground is damp from assured threats Like a politicians kiss, just wet and empty. The land is not angry with me, nor my kin And only seeks to release the pain within. I want her to weep and release her pain So that we can all try to be one again. But too much power will oppose the plan And who will suffer in the end...just man. ----- Unequalled Wisdom The fairground that is life has many choices, And equally speaking out, so many voices. Do not laugh, do not sing, do not enjoy, Those miserable bastards are not Gods envoy. He says "Love thy neighbour, but not his wife" That's a sure way he recons of causing strife He says "Love thy neighbour, but not his Ass" I could say something, but I won't be crass. On the fairground that is life, enjoy all you can. And equally avoid criticism by a religious man. ----- Waders in Wellington How apt the name of the "Long White Cloud". How true the vision of Wellington That before he had heard of these "Fair Isles" He created footwear to travel thereon. Inelegant black, built for function only and Totally shunned by the fashion paragon. But need must when the Devil drives And sensible footwear helps one survive Please take me back before much longer To shorts, and sun, and open footwear. back to list |
Leny Roovers![]() Listening Slowly my mind takes to the reins and gets attuned to inner song; thy gentle touch took off old chains- I'll freely find where I belong. My inner light is beckoning, reflects thy wisdom from beyond; and in the hour of reckoning, my heart shall willingly respond. Until my soul joins in thy light, I fill my days with serene plight. ----- Love and laughter You smile your secret smile at me from eyes aglow with love fulfilled. We sigh and touch- soft, languidly, our energy in passion spilled. Your body is well-known and dear, I revel in your muscled hold; we're partners, but one thing is clear, in bed I do as I am told... Or so you like to think, my sweet... beneath warm skin I kiss love's beat. ----- My silent lake I dive into my silent lake, her waters heal, remove all ache. My body may be tired or weak, in her I rest, find all I seek. With her soft ripples she enfolds my busy mind, till peace unfolds. Her open arms will take me in, she is my home, my inner skin. Born from her substance, I'll accept her patient Love, in freedom kept. ----- Pigeons and Doves As heavens bleed their crystalled blood, the earth below turns into mud. In spreading pools upon grey stone, we're called by angels to atone. A flock of pigeons just flew down and huddle close, in pear-tree's crown. Embodied as a harmless dove, they bring a message from above- should angels stop to cry clear floods, our trees no longer could grow buds. ----- Spring garden White blossoms on my pear trees' arms, unfold soft petals, show off charms. Amidst dry twigs of last year's fall, the blackbirds search for worms, still small. While on the fence, my neighbour's cat thinks of her dinner, ears drawn flat. She takes a giant leap below- the birds have flown, she was too slow. High in the apple-tree they sing a serenade, to welcome spring. ----- Tenderness Your voice sends thrills along my spine, my heartstrings echo in accord; our bodies that so well combine, weave harmony on love's own chord. My fingertips travel your skin and linger on each cherished spot, I kiss the black dust on your chin, in which now specks of grey are caught. Life drew new lines into your face- they disappear, when we embrace. ----- Watching With winged out knees and heels aligned, I watch thought-clouds drift through my mind. Each breath is born above my womb, it travels upward, comes to bloom. As prăna flows through chakras' line, new strands of colour swift entwine till in my body's inner room pure cloth is woven on light's loom. Pulsating patterns grow and shine as silence deepens in my shrine. back to list |
Dinah SerritelliI must admit I had no bloody clue, About this challenge Sonnetina Due. Couplets it says…Well! That seems just fine, So rambling on I write line after line. I am by nature a bit long on wind, Did not know by line count I would be pinned. A little frustrating to say the least, To try and harness this broody old beast. Five couplets equal a line count of ten, My first and my last…won't do it again. ----- The Need My man and I settled for life in the West, To become farmers we were slightly obsessed. Built a house that sat solid side of a hill Made friends, have a community if you will. We keep some pigs, chickens, horses, even goats, We grow beans, corn, potatoes, wheat and some oats. There in the back behind a wall made of stone Is the reason we never stray far from home. Two little graves for our daughter and our son, Lost to a fever in eighteen ninety one. 2 I could bring forth no more…lonesome was our plight, When the children died we seemed to lose our light. In church the pastor spoke 'bout an Orphan Train Thus we went to meet it…in the pouring rain. We were looking for a child to call our own We sought smiles and laughter for our childless home. My man wanted for help with chores, a strong boy, I just wanted a child to give us some joy. I saw me a boy, puny, just around ten, In his tired arms, a girl babe, his to defend. 3 'I ain't going nowhere without Hannah May, If you wants me, then, as well, she'll have to stay.' I tugged at Hugh's sleeve, my eyes just filled with tears, 'These here are our children to love through the years. I won't leave here, leaving these children behind,' He looked at me like I was mad, lost my mind. I'd made up my mind, that's all there was too it, He just sighed…no noise from his lips did emit. It's been nigh on twenty years, our children grown, They made this sad house a most happy home. The best thing we ever did, my Hugh and me, Was to add these children to our family tree. back to list |
Nicola WynterSmiles are like spun gold on a purple mist morning, thick tropics air alters spread shining before them, making thoughts crystal as their eyes turn to pewter. Magic mint grows surrounding where lovers caressed, like they will again in dreams on the alter of their love. ----- Serein After sunset in came from heavens door, Indeed, the finest mist you could ask for From the cloudless sky that we pray'd would cry To ease the parch of drought, arid land sighs. Too little, but oh so gently in came After sunset, it wrest from heavens claim Just like a dew upon a lovers shoulder Or a breath breathed kiss, bare necked, bolder, A soft surprise, where none had existed, This sweet eden mist with us cavorted. ----- Stained Glass Periwinkle are your two eyes Lit by candlelight fire, When storm drains trickle rain from skies Too blue for desire. Your stalker is loves own heart highs~ Antique white moons pyre Pay soul rent stained with molten lies, Poured glass, your attire. ----- Upon the Waves Upon the waves the mermaids play Wearing old lace and gold, They change the moon to shadows gray Where angels can't be bold. Lapping the shores wherever they Land, the waves spare no hold, Though moth and bird go as they may, Frostbit hearts swim, I'm told. back to list |
