2009 Poetry Theme Challenges#9 Flight![]() Spirit of Flight by Josephine Wall |
|
'The Spirit of Flight, the force responsible for the powers of movement of the wind and air, has gathered
around her all the flying things she loves. Birds, insects, flying fish, swirling leaves, seeds of dandelions
and sycamore trees, butterflies and fairies all dance around her in a grand array of wild free motion.' Part of the joy of doing the theme challenges is the opportunity to look back over the themes that were set. So I thought why not revisit some of the older ones. This time we are going back to the first theme challenge I can find on the Garret, way back in 2006, 'Flight'. Take a look at the original challenge - Poetry Flight Theme. The challenge, take one of the poems posted and use it to inspire your own write. Please give credit to the original poem. I will be posting lines and some images to further inspire the muse on inspiration corner Happy quilling Jem XXXX |

Divena Collins![]() My heart is full of tender love when my lover draws me near, I thank the moon and stars above for his affection I hold so dear. Sweet love he whispers in my ear. as he holds me close to his chest , my love for him I do so endear I know we two are so blessed. Spirits as one, on their final quest, taking flight to the land of desires, soaring upward to a tranquil rest. to extinguish the flame of fires. Two hearts both drift high to sing Are flying gently without wings. back to list |
Jem FarmerTo ride on Pegasus - the white winged horse, I'd fly across the skies to be with you, defining love, a mystic dream, of course, where senses waken with the morning dew. My Pegasus, his wings of shimmering sun, I'd grasp his mane and ride the open sky, to see the truth beyond the easy fun, astride his back, my horse like love can fly, can love be real or just another wasted lie? ----- Victors Flight ![]() In summer's lunar light - his words I weep? To cast aside his love for beauty's touch, as Siren whores with devilled fingers creep, inside vacated heart of nothing much. A scant desire that leads to bitter pain, his twisted thoughts - my flights of ecstasy, my first and last , my sun and winter's rain, his words release my mind to liberty, yet where his soul remains - his words have no mercy. back to list |
Ryter RoethicleFlying alone along the avenue of clouds I welcome the silence and the solitude The total absence of sound and crowds So close, to heaven at this altitude I feel a sense of awe, a change of mood Looking up, I fly my craft along a street First black then white, till blue is viewed Being human, that challenge I cannot meet Too high to far for a mere mortals feat. Angels and Gods look from their heavenly height Smiling at a mere mortal looking up at them Not curious just amused by that simple sight A wish to fly they had heard man mention That wish to fly they could never condemn They give to birds and insects a gift rare Who has not heard their joy of ascension? And the joy of man in flight they are aware As they look down from their castles in the air. ![]() ----- My Wings My wings shall cover the tapestried earth In addition, the shot blue silk of the sea Flying high west seeing the sun give birth The world so far below in my apogee My wings ride the silken morn with glee As I pattern the silent and sunlit sky Under Cancer and Capricorn, envy me For I'm flying where birds can never fly My wings cover the world so easily Soaring over the conquered mountain Where cloud pennants unfurl so high Over where I have ruled as sovereign Wings quieter now sing softer songs in flight Begining their decsent towards the night. ----- Xplanation Each time we love I ascend into heaven For a while I live with the moon and stars Then I become a flaming meteor, a certain Cast off from some remote, distant quasar Not just a reject from nearby planet Mars. Finally I land back on earth happily spent But now I can't give up what's so easily ours I am addicted to you, yet I am content Knowing that my fix will be ever present. ![]() back to list |
Leny RooversCome hold my hand, my love and keep me close, tonight we'll fly together when we dream- amidst the Milky Way our cloud-ship glows, reflecting twinkling stars and Moon's cool beam. Our flight will take us higher than jet's stream, as hand in hand we'll rise above the spheres until we'll reach that quiet plane supreme, where pain and fear at last will disappear. Stay by my side, my love, I'll dry your tears and kiss away old worry-lines of doubt. From now on life will leave sweet souvenirs and we'll cast off all loneliness and drought. As joined by hand and heart, we fly away, when morning comes, it brings a bright new day. ![]() back to list |
Nia WynneHalf a dream came true when he opened his wings, Inviting a friendship in the shadows of clouds It seemed that half of love is all he could bring, so with it flew a silken butterflies shroud That should have been left on the muddy ground. Giving up flight again once the earth met With feet of ten thousand butterflies all around, A great mass of life became a regret Wishing for flight that only love would let. ![]() ----- Where Dragons Die My soul is in the sky where dragons go to die And alight the heavens with another bold star, Always watching and waiting for others to fly, With myself amongst them, in spirit, from afar. The journey begins when gliding for take off to summer Lakes of crystal blue, flying a small globe In an infinitesimal universe, spar Of lighthouse on the rocky shore, in earthly robe Strewn with many human candles that make her strobe. . ![]() back to list |
