2013 Poetry Form Challenge

#13 Go Vat

This form originated in Cambodia, but the French Influence can be seen in this one, where there is a longer syllable count and a repeat line or word, and is believed to have become a popular form in the late 1800s.
It consists of a couplet of usually eight syllables, which sets the rhyme for the subsequent stanzas, and a third line which can be repeated totally or phrase or just the final word.

O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. a.
O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. a.
O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. B.

O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. a.
O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. a.
O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. O. B.

Etc.
My spirit

My spirit is no longer part of me
I gave it away to you most willingly
Together with my heart.

I would share it all with thee
And boast for all the world to see
Willingly giving you my heart.

Tell me of your love I will agree
And share my life to infinity
See again I offer you my heart.

Isn't love the most simplistic plea
Showing you are open and free
Infinity calls let's share one heart.

Terry Clitheroe

Todays poets are a little more relaxed and because English is not a naturally rhyming language, began using a different rhyming couplet and ignoring the syllable count. Whilst purists may frown at this, some advocates of this form would argue that it widens the range of subject matter, and could even enter areas once used only by balladeers and similar forms. Below Divena Collins gives a lovely example of the modern form.

This Day Of Fools

Back in medieval asylum school,
elders were strict, and could be cruel
on the first of April, this day of fools.

Sent on silly errands for jest,
inmates tried there very best,
on the first of April, this day of fools

This we all still practise today
but in a very much kinder way,
on the first of April, this day of fools.

But when midday, be gone and done,
you be a fool, for making them one.
on the first of April, this day of fools.

Divena Collins

Finaly the most relaxed form of Go Vat, is where the couplets still rhyme and the repeat line only carries the rhyme and ignores the syllable count. I think this is what is known as poetic license.

Guan Yin

"As long as you are kind and there is love in your heart
A thousand hands will naturally come to your aid
As long as you are kind and there is love in your heart
You will reach out with a thousand hands to help others."

A thousand hands that render aid,
Ears that hear ev'ry cry that's made;
The pledge of the Goddess Guan Yin.

When we are worried or dismayed,
Overcome by despair, afraid,
Remember the Goddess Guan Yin.

But what we receive must be paid
Back to others, in a fair trade
Off, so says the Goddess Guan Yin.

By Chance

You came in the night like a thief,
A Leprechaun with gold relief,
By chance your charm shall bring me luck.

You threw the dice, gave a symbol,
A circle of gold, probable
By chance your charm shall bring me luck.

You gave me some cards telling of
A risk involving games of love,
By chance your charm shall bring me luck.

You thought it was just like roulette,
Yet time to be free without threat,
By chance your charm will bring me luck.

For Once

All because you are on my mind
At dawn of day new hopes I find,
For once the stars do shine above.

All my divine thoughts are yours now,
The answers sought you whisper how
For once the stars do shine above.

All of time paints loves purple wine
Across horizons lovely shrine,
For us the stars do wink above.

Druidic Ways

The world was given to man and his conceit
Living in simple ways upon life's beat
Somewhere to live an abundance of all.

Living as one with the Earth, a simple feat
Feeding, nourishing, finding plenty to eat
Somewhere to live an abundance of all.

Those who know never have to compete
Following ancient ways is no great feat
Somewhere to live an abundance of all.

The ancients had no need to steal or cheat
The bosom of Nature has a bountiful seat
Somewhere to live an abundance of all.

Finding Treasure

Let us touch for a little while, Eternity is fine
Let our souls mingle, let yours, meet mine.
You have become a treasure in my life.

In that time I hope neither will emerge
Instead I pray that they stay converged
You have become a treasure in my life.

Fate was smiling allowing us to meet
Knowing we make each other complete
You have become a treasure in my life.

Give all to love

Tonight love reached its peak so far
each time we love, we raise the bar
for true love has set its mark to all.

There is no challenge, no call from afar
as we give all to love and follow our star.
for true love has set its mark to all.

I am reminded there is nought bizarre,
we cannot do with loving for we are
true love that sets its mark to all.

-----

Heartbeat

Each plant pushing forth new leaves
Is aware of the life that it conceives
It has been so throughout all time.

Blossoming forth its symbolic scenes
To procreate and pass on its genes
It has been so throughout all time.

Reliant on symbiosis for the key
It needs the help of the worker bee
It has been so throughout all time.

Or other creature that passes seed
To fertilize each plant and weed
It has been so throughout all time.

And as the seasons wax and wane
One years loss is another's gain
It has been so throughout all time.

Nature balances it out with time
So that nothing can e'r out climb
It has been so throughout all time.

All things are equal we must learn
A balanced life is our main concern
It has been so throughout all time.

Just a Chance

Given any chance new life begins
The lowly spider, the web she spins.
I'm not a Greeny, it's common sense.

Beasts know their place and seek a mate
All live in harmony within their state.
I'm not a Greeny, it's common sense.

Every plant that pushes forth new leaves
Knows nature's balance must be achieved
I'm not a Greeny, it's common sense.

Knows it will have its time then it goes
Then it procreates and so life grows.
I'm not a Greeny, it's common sense.

All was given to man and his conceit
He truly believes his minds deceit
I'm not a Greeny, it's common sense.

With time forgot this is not his plan
Stating all has been given to man.
I'm not a Greeny, it's common sense.

Ignoring everyday a species dies
And all we hear is corporate lies.
I'm not a Greeny, it's common sense.

Loves Tune

Dancing to loves tune, spin and turn
The fever of love causes you to burn
Inside your heartbeat skips and pounds.

Your lover's steps you quickly learn
And whilst apart your innards churn.
Inside your heartbeat skips and pounds.

Each night to loves dancing we return
Bodies touching as you nightly yearn
Inside your heartbeat skips and pounds.

Souls locked in a heavenly sojourn
There's no contest, no points to earn
Inside your heartbeat skips and pounds.

Question of Life and Love

And how must we greet the morn
Will my dreams now fit the dawn?
Joined together because of dreams.

Do we part at dark, and wave goodbye
Is it really worthwhile this time to try
Joined together because of dreams.

Or just that our lives have crossed?
Two boats met on life’s ocean tossed
Joined together because of dreams.

You now walk with me on my road
Let's be together and share our load
Joined together because of dreams.

Knowing that this life is a day in time
Towards Nirvana together we climb
Joined together because of dreams.

Rose Thoughts

My rose protected by those thorns so well
So many of us are attracted by your smell
So easy to look after, for so great a reward.

Why are we threatened with so much harm
Even thinking of thy beauty makes me warm.
So easy to look after, for so great a reward.

I know of no one that does not love thee
Each time walking to my car, pleases me
So easy to look after, for so great a reward.

Every colour of you, I have happily on view;
Each day you treat me to something new;
So easy to look after for so great a reward.

After looking at you brings me ease
Bringing me beauty, bringing me peace
So easy to look after for so great a reward.

Seasons of Life

Now we begin a brand new life
Extracted by a drunken midwife
A screaming, messy, painful time

Summer has sweet playful fingers
Memories of first time love lingers
A screaming, messy, pleasured time

Autumn is when the peace begins
Finally love becomes free of sins
Still a messy, pleasurable time

Maturity takes less of a fervour
At the fireside, lovers remember
Those messy, pleasurable times.

Finally the seasons end with night
And we waken to a different light
No mess and only pleasurable times

Xong (Complete)

When soft voices die or fade away
Then where are we, what do we say
Relax your body and close your eyes.

Then peace finally develops in us
Feeling existence without any stress
Relax your body and close your eyes.

When stress's removed we see clearly
No questions, no obstacles with reality
Relax your body and close your eyes.

We relate with our thoughts, our minds
Goodness exists like the sun, we find
Relax your body and close your eyes.

We experience ourselves, who we are,
We have connected upwards, not far
Relax your body and close your eyes.

-----

Z Time

As the Sandwoman closed my eyes
Contentment caused my sighs
Dreams of you and I, tonight.

We were looking at the stars and skies
Then with the evenings soft demise
I dreamt of you and I, tonight.

When you look at me I can't disguise
Feelings of desire you cause to arise
Then I dream of you and I, tonight.

Bird Boogie

Come on little bird lets go to the hop
Rock'n roll razamataz boogy and bop
Swing it chic come on now get with it.

Shake it to the left then to the right
Aint gonna stop 'til the mornins light
Not until you done astruttin` yer bit.

Dont tell me that birds cannot dance
Its a dead sure courtship for romance
For a bird indeed must prove hes fit.

He wont give up now thats for sure
What he needs his motives are pure
But will only have what she permits..

Country Lanes

Of which pathway shall I take
What if I make a mistake
And get lost within the mist.

I am halfway to everywhere
But thought I was right here
Until the road signs I missed.

I felt I had been here before
But I cant be sure any more
If It does or does not exist.

Yet I see with my own eyes
A sign post within disguise
Now next on the waiting list.

If I turn round and go back
Tho'I may gain what I lack
How shall temptation resist.

De Amor Magico

I feel magic this night I am with you
For shades of moonbows shine thro`
Upon our mystical moment of elation.

Love shall be with us to the extreme
That which was once an exotic dream
Was ever to be there in imagination.

This was the beginning of a new dawn
Of a sun that had forever shone upon
The warmth of love within meditation.

Which brought a new meaning to love
Of spiritual sensations from up above
Within new found paths of temptation.

Spiritual love that hath reborn anew
To remain as ever both lovers true
Deep within a magnetic realisation.

The Dragonfly Knight

Here shalt the dragonfly rest
Where not a raven shall digest
Safely within the castles keep.

Cast aside by the sword of man
Ne'er was included within plan
For a hurt dragonfly shall weep.

For he was not without feeling
When a lance sent him reeling
Safely within the castles keep.

A prisoner now he shall reside
Forever he shall be cast aside
But a hurt dragonfly shall weep.

His pride goeth before his fall
Yet now the bravest of them all
Safely within the castles keep.

-----

Echo Of Love

Love shall echo throughout the ages
Each precious moment love engages
Forever after future passion glows.

Eternal love shalt not be forsaken
Through the past a future awakens
An affinity of love that ever flows.

Joyous love shall this affinity be
Desirous passion from thee to me
That fantasies shall ever bestow.

The Love of my life shall ever stay
Tho' shadowed spirits forever play
Within eternity this love shall grow.

Lady Penelope's Rose (Modern Version)

Lady Penelope from Castletown tower
Lay with her lordship`neath the bower
Within thorns O' yon wild tangled rose.

Little had she known how he suffered
His outlook had somewhat differed
How can this be in the midst of prose.

Lady Penelope had helped as she would
But only if she had known how she could
Seek such a remedy`beneath ones nose.

A hedgehog then had come ambling by
It could be the answer she can but try
By now his Lordship was over exposed.

Lady Penelope had thought of a plan
Maybe she could now make him a man
So oblivious he was at what had arose.

'Begone hedgehog you are much too late
Its not what it seems I dont need a mate
These thorns otherwise shall decompose.`

Lady Penelope from Castletown tower
Lay with her lordship beneath a bower
Who plucked her a wild tangled rose.

Lilt O' The Kilt

Scottish highlanders came to the shore
The natives never saw the like's before
Their eyes followed the lilt O' the kilt.

How strange the clothes they bequeath
Whatever shalt they adorn underneath
So their eyes followed the lilt O' the kilt.

From whence hath they ventured forth
They say they came here from the north
Those whose eyes follow the lilt O' the kilt.

Who are ye who hath come to our shore
Pray tell me shall there be as many more
Who shall proudly show the lilt tae his kilt.

Come ye all Oh great men from the north
Show thy manlihood for all that is worth
Scots whae hae tae the lilts O' yer kilts.

-----

The Loner

Oftimes she would amble upon her own
With thoughts inside never to be shown
She had captured so deep within.

Only her feelings could then set her free
For love of the countrysides harmony
That she had forever felt therein.

Peace and tranquility within her scene
No finer a place there had ever been
That she could hide herself herein.

A haven she felt within wide open arms
She so sensative unto natures charms
Knew her love was about to begin.

This was the place she hid as a child
Gentle and caring yet pure and wild
It was there she chose to fit in.

Morrigan Goddess (My Version)

A phantom queen from a celtic race
Depicts the form of the crows grace
Morrigan the Goddess of Valkyrie

She who within her souls did dwell
Within battles that survived or fell
Upon an ancient reign of imagerie.

Time may tell if this tale is a myth
Some say she was born in Penrith
Morrigan the Goddess of Valkyrie.

Yet Irish roots are showing clear
Scottish highlanders dwell so near
Upon an ancient reign of imagerie.

English lore shall not fall from grace
They play their part in the celtic race
Aside Morrigan Goddess of Valkyrie.

-----

Most Purrfect Cat

Within lazy hazy summer days
May be just a passing phase
Who knows when it may rain.

Sunny days taken for granted
Is not what stature wanted
But then again nor was rain.

Animals shall suffer the most
Might as well give up the host
Just to relieve them with rain.

Cats and dogs with not a patch
Of a furry coat left to scratch
Welcome the thought of rain.

Takes refuge upon a cosy chair
Who but she shall not despair
For the strays left in the rain.

-----

Sirens Song

How they listen with devotion
He who plays upon the ocean
To sirens songs of the deep.

His mystic melody of echo`s
As the surf of a wave flows
To awaken sirens from sleep.

Dreamily they follow his song
Within a rhythm as strong
Fantasies are their`s to keep.

He pipes the songs of romance
Whilst the sirens lustily dance
Until a surf of emotion leaps.

Spiritually Bless'd

Lest my time on earth should fade away
Let Gabriel blow his horn upon this day
For I hath once been bless`d with love.

Let there be not a grand procession
Nor shame me unto a false confession
For I hath once been bless`d with love.

Yet I fear my spirit shalt never rest
His love shalt linger within my breast
For I hath once been bless`d with love

I shalt walk with my love hand in hand
Seeking lost spirits from land to land
Where we both shall find eternal love.

Storm Clouds

Hot the sun that doth provoke a storm
So humid and bleak as the clouds form
Low and dark within the summer heat.

Though they say rain is what we need
Not just for us but for autumns seed
That promise a harvest so all may eat.

Who knows what our weather may do
Predictions may or may not prove true
But a cooler breeze shall be a treat.

So bring on the storm if you may chose
Weather man win`s but we shall not lose
All remains cooler when storms retreat.

Was that a rumbling from a dark cloud ?
I think I better go it sounds very loud
My fear of lightning I shall never meet.

Tapestry Of Love

A gown of silk thy shalt unveil
For thou art precise upon detail
To entice thy fantasies of love.

I shalt not tease a wanton heart
For time is hard when lovers part
Within absence so depraved of.

Absence maketh thy heart as fond
Let not true love break that bond
Nor let soul lovers stray or rove

Let fantasies reign deep within
This love was ne-er to be a sin
When time itself may ever prove.

Thy silken gown shall e`er unveil
For the most it should never fail
Silk threads of love shall be wove.

Who Really Knows

Hot is the waves of heat upon my brow
Where may the rays of the sun go now
When the summer temperatures arise.

Humid the summer that follows thro'
Pastoral meadows with a hazy hue
To bathe in the sun shall be unwise.

Sun baked soil no longer bears dew
Times which hailed storms remain few
As the core of a parched planet dies.

The great oceans shall revert to lakes
Baked within summers tidal remakes
And there shall be no shortage of flies.

Wild are the imaginations of nature
For their never was a living creature
All included, that shall ever summise.

Goddess Returns

I closed my eyes so I could see
There is a better path for me,
When spring calls my Goddess returns.

Amid the stones on bended knee,
I felt her touch spread over me,
In honour, my Goddess returns.

Oh Queen of all who has blessed me,
In thy light I'm forever free,
In new life my Goddess returns.

Daffodils trumpet thy glory,
As blossoms shade the cherry tree,
In delight my Goddess returns.

The babbling brook sings to thee,
From the mountain to the valley,
To this world my Goddess returns.

I lay me down so standing free,
And face my own humility,
In my heart my Goddess returns.

Pictures of Silence

Calling to mind tranquil places,
where the soul meets those embraces
that create my peaceful vision.

Breathing in, slowing life's paces
intense moments knowing graces
I found in my peaceful vision.

Imagined beach, tidal traces
leaving intricate sand laces
on shores of my peaceful vision.

Rebounding Heart

The taste of love has lingered on,
a brief instant that stayed too long,
rebounding heart that led to you.

Each kiss a lie, a mourning song,
embraced in thought this love is wrong,
rebounding heart that led for you.

A promised tryst did not belong,
between us two when hurts were strong,
rebounding heart that led to you.

No chance to breath or think as one,
just asked for time was given none,
rebounding heart that led to you.

Amid the web of lies you spun,
I smile and see new life begun
my loving heart has closed to you.

Go Vat Of The Senses

Sight: The First Sense.

I see your reflection in the mirror
Makes me want you to be nearer
What do I see, what do you permit?

It makes me wonder, who is it I see,
Without answers my mind isn’t free
What do I see, what do you permit?

Your eyes do they hide your sorrow,
Is your love for keeps or merely borrow
What do I see, what do you permit?

What thoughts hide behind your smile,
Are your thoughts of love so fragile
What do I see, what do you permit?

You turn to me two more mirrors
As slowly mirrors change to doors
I now see more as you permit.

The Sense of Sight - Annie Louisa Swynnerton
-----

Smell: The Second Sense

I see your reflection in the mirror
I sniff the air, but there is no odour.
What do I smell, what do you permit?

Clean, showered and freshly soaped
This reflection doesn't bring me hope
What do I smell, what do you permit?

Where's the aroma belonging to you,
This is a scentless image that I view,
What do I smell, what do you permit?

There's nothing without your presence
This glass image hasn't any fragrance
What do I smell, what do you permit?

There is non of loves pungency in it
How can this scentless image commit?
What do I smell, what do you permit?

-----

Sound: the third sense

I see your reflection in the mirror
But you speak of love much clearer
What should I hear, what do you permit?

The sounds of your love, I want to hear,
They are the only sounds I hold dear
What should I hear, what do you permit?

Your voice's a ring sounds like a smile
There's no sound from you to beguile,
What should I hear, what do you permit?

If only your spirit could be heard.
You know that triangle of words
What should I hear, what do you permit?

They're the only ones that I hold dear
Endearing words to remove my fear
What should I hear, what do you permit?

-----

Touch: the fourth sense

How well I know your softness
With warm wet lips so soft to kiss
What dare I touch, what do you permit?

How can I make your heart grow
Were it possible would you allow
What dare I touch, what do you permit?

No impostor's image that's before me
Has your love, that special joie de vie.
What dare I touch, what do you permit?

I feel trembling flesh willing to submit,
Under my touch, I feel you commit
What dare I touch, what do you permit?

-----

Taste: The fifth sense

I see your reflection in the mirror
I ask, What flavour does it endow
Am I allowed to savour any bit?

It looks so bland, food for a fool,
It doesn't make my tastebuds drool
Am I allowed to savour any bit?

Of saltiness flavour, there is none
Flavoured loves juices are all gone
Am I allowed to savour any bit?

Than that of a fruity loving womyn
Need I search for spice and cumin?
Am I allowed to savour any bit?

-----

Soul: The sixth sense

The reflection I see in the mirror
I search my mind, I need to know
There's no need to ask if you permit.

Is this an image of your soul?
We are now closer to being whole
There's no need to ask if you permit.

The past has gone but you remain
Eternity has become our domain
There's no need to ask if you permit.

You turn to me, and offer your soul,
Because of the love we share, we are whole,
There's no need to ask if you permit.

No longer having any sorrows to hide.
As together through Eternity we abide
There's no need to ask if you permit.

The window of love open to us both
And all we'll do is cause its growth
There's no need to ask if you permit.
