Poetic Constellations

2016 Poetry Form Challenge

#12 Balassi Stanza

It is believed that this stanza form was used by the Hungarian poet Balint Balassi, who rationalised it from a three line form consisting of 19 syllables per line, and broke it up by the use of internal rhymes, and evolved into a rhyme scheme as follows:
x. x. x. x. x. a.
x. x. x. x. x. a.
x. x. x. x. x. x. d
x. x. x. x. x. b
x. x. x. x. x. b
x. x. x. x. x. x. d
x. x. x. x. x. c
x. x. x. x. x. c
x. x. x. x. x. x. d

Vail

One time on a morn's stroll
I heard this tale unfold
Within a place of beauty
I listened intently
Wondering what could be
The source of that majesty
Then I looked in awe
Smiling at what I saw
'Twas you saying "I love thee".

Blast from the Past

Hullo friend, you out there,
What a surprise to hear
About you in cyber space.
I hope that you are well,
There is so much to tell.
It is good to see your face.
I pray there's still a song
In your heart, going strong
As it still is in my case.

Technology is great
But even moreso fate
And who knows what hand she'll play;
Give us the chance to meet
Again - that would be 'neat',
There would be so much to say.
Though if that's not to be
Then I'm still glad that we
Are in touch again today.

We walked some happy miles,
And we shared tears and smiles,
It seems a long time ago.
We were so very young
With songs still to be sung
There was no way we could know
That we were simply knaves
In a chess game, small waves
In Life's constant ebb and flow.

So old friend of my youth
You shocked me, that's the truth,
How quickly time has flown by;
I cherished that red rose
That you gave me all those
Years ago... it made me sigh:
But that is in the past
And our die long cast
But the mem'ries linger nigh.

-----

El Shadai

You're my strength El Shadai
I lift Your Name on high
I know I can count on You.
You listen when I pray
You let me have my say,
Then You show me what to do.
I don't always agree,
Might object strenuously
But who am I to argue?

You must know El Shadai
No matter what that I
Shall forever sing Your praise;
For when times have been bad
I know that I have had
You leading me out the maze.
The salvation You wrought
And the blessing You've brought
Me will last all of my days.

-----

Froggy Feelings

Once on a starry night
Two frogs to their delight
Saw each other at a dance
And they knew right away
Without having to say
A word, this was no mere chance
Meeting - they were soul mates
And after several dates
They went on a trip to France.

But little did they know
The French like frog legs so
They were in for a surprise.
They chased them everywhere
Shouting out, "'ave no fear,
We will do you no 'arm!"Lies!
And so they hopped across
The border, near got lost,
But that just strengthened their ties.

Another starry night,
With two frogs huddled tight
Looking upward at the moon.
He croaks an "I love you,"
She whispers back, "Me too:"
Then they both begin to croon
Tender frog lullabies
For sleepy tadpole eyes
That'll be in dreamland soon.

-----

Stargazer

Goodnight my radiant light
How I wish that you might
Show your glory to all men;
To those who cannot see,
And those who choose to be
Blind to your brilliance when
If they would lift their eyes
They would see in your skies
Beauty far beyond their ken.

Shooting star you must know
However far you go
That I will never forget
How you inspired me,
And helped to set me free
I'm forever in your debt.
I'm in a peaceful place,
In life's ongoing race,
No more need to fuss or fret.

-----

Survival

Sometimes hurt can become
Our master, make us numb
Until we merely exist;
But we have to fight,
Keep focused on the light
At the tunnel's end; resist
The urge to stay depressed,
We're alive, we are blessed,
Perhaps even being missed.

Nobody has a clue
Not them, not me, not you,
What the future holds in store;
Life is no easy game,
Oft wounds us, leaves us lame,
But still we have to play; for
Despite hardship and pain,
We join the fray again,
That is simply Nature's Law,

But look around and see
Friends everywhere who'll be
Ready with a helping hand,
Or a willing shoulder,
To help move the boulder
That has us weighted down; and
We may soon realise
To our great surprise
That life once again is grand.

-----

To Speak

"He who does not understand your silence
will probably not understand your words."
Elbert Hubbard

I ponder on those words
A message for the birds?
Not so, they make good sense.
When I choose not to speak
If my silence is Greek
To you, leaves you in suspense,
Then you will never hear
Me, even when I'm clear,
So why bother to commence?

Silence is golden, yes,
But sometimes I confess
I prefer to spit it out;
Say what I have to say
Give you your chance and pray
That neither will need to shout.
Sometimes things left unsaid
Can fester, fill our head
Leaving us with serious doubt.

There must be a mix
One that eas'ly predicts
When you ought to hold your tongue,
Or say what's on your mind.
Leaving no thought behind,
And not one word left unsung.
Until then we wait
Too often in a state
Of flux with nerves highly strung.

Brumbies in the Rain

Out of the mists you came
Somewhere in time, no name,
But the wind from some place
Where gallah's cry to say
Here we are, come what may,
From which we try to race
Away from harm and pain
To brighter days and gain
The right to live with grace.

-----

Darkest Balassi

Where my corpse did once lay
Now shadows come to play
And upon this souls dark
Spirits raise a new force,
To conquer deaths source
They need another mark
That ensures undead made
Will ever come to wade
Through ghostly sea, life's spark.

Now my undead body
Looks just as badly bloody,
I take new steps here
On uncertain black earth,
Forgotten by the hearse
Life now holds no fears.
For the devil may spawn
When deaths door holds the pawn
With damnation and tears.

-----

Grandmothers Valley

Grandmother bows branches
After sunsets riches
Of colors and lights beauty
Bestow earth with dances,
Painting skies as eyes watch
Sunshine in clouds roll daily
Across azure vistas
Viewed above gashes,
Green oak sentinel valleys.
-----

One More Night

One more night could be mine,
Let one more eve be fine.
Please let birds sing while on wings
Of peaceful dreams of love,
Sunny storms from above,
Dewy mornings longer bring
One more day of sure rest,
Let one more hour be blessed
Harmonious as first Spring.

-----

Sunrise Smiles

Just a dawn caught in dreams
Is how I wish smiles beam
In mornings of sweetest charms
The stars fade like old gems
Carried in amulets
So nightmares can do no harm
And only arms hold gold
Where loves stories are told,
New light gives dreams all that's warm.

-----

Underground

You'll find me underground,
Underneath, though earth's round,
I've been down lower than lava
At the core of heats born,
Birthed from granite reborn
Recycled pure nirvana,
Repurposing this life
Living destroying strife,
Pouring its ice under java
Melting awake new sun
Shining through steam of morn
Mourning not loss of drama,
Dreaming instead wisdom
Bliss inside stones risen,
Rise up from below trauma
Removing all blackness,
Pave your roads goldeness,
Flowing rivers of magma.

Addio Mia Stella

Just add to me your touch
I love you, so very much
I am left with it's sadness
that of you leaving me
my redness dripping see
in the water's red madness.
no anger or remorse
just a broken hearts course
looking down at the redness.

All your disbelieving
your reason for leaving
redness swirls away slower
there is no pulsing now
just a very slow flow
my mood is now much lower
the water's hardly red
slow sleep calls me to bed
and soon it will be over.

-----

Break Up

Cry against my shoulder
as I take hold of you
now please let your pain pour out
let it go, holding you
there's no need to feel blue
come on; let your feelings sprout
weeping words tell me all
eyes now wide open fall
watch your hurt now blowout.

-----

Cello in the Wind

The winds mellow voice plays.
Deeper cello sound stays
Moving through the branches making
Notes more mature and soft
Through the branches they waft
And leaves in turn start shaking
Then nature adds her mood
When other sounds intrude
We hear the new day breaking.

-----

Essence of Correctness

Am I too near those dreams,
Times when things were just streams,
When no one denied their guise
Or what they had truly felt
Or not afraid of what's dealt
Every good thing was our highs,
We never used swearwords
Good manners opened doors
Placidity was our poetries

Children's games were simple
Worries were only a pimple
And everyone really had fun
It was a time of innocence
Like sneaking o'r a fence
Adults laughing what they'd done
Today we hear of kids
Ignoring what God bids
Solving problems with a gun.

-----

Heavenly thoughts

A simple person's spirit
will shine out like a light
beaming through a lampshade
and taken for granted
what was really wanted
for them was so simply made
there is wealth in innocence
the greedy say it's nonsense
simple thoughts're easier conveyed.

We are sitting at rest
nine to fivers at best
bored and mentally dull
sifting through our rubbish
what will we accomplish
with minds we have made so full
is this wisdom? I ask
it's not a very hard task
would we be missed in a cull?

Simple people are wise
enjoy every sunrise
totally at one with nature
smiling, feeling the wind
never feeling pinned
being a simple creature
without useless needs
doing charitable deeds
just a proper life's teacher.

-----

Leaving

As the plane climbs higher,
there's no cooling my fire
we cannot altar destiny,
no matter how high we go,
I can picture you below,
and you thinking about me
now all I feel is pain
my tears falling like rain
sometimes love can be beastly.

Tonight the heavens cry
at the gate we said 'bye'
wishing things could be different.
we'd loved so well and strong
knowing that it was wrong
whilst passion was our intent
how can that be loveless
but now there is this mess
now we're faced with torment.

-----

Memories

When memories come awake
What impact does it make?
Do you think of us at all?
Do you feel pain like me
Longing for what could be?
Or with time has grown to small
I can't believe you'd forget
Waking with no regret
My impact on you so small.

Do you remember nights
And watching setting sights
Seeing stars light up a while
Then hide behind the hill
And everything was still
You would look at me and smile
All was well, love was fine
That look said you were mine
Making the journey worthwhile.

-----

Please

Excuse trembling fingers
In their search their lingers
Their quest is to know you well
To trace each unknown way
Or with pleasure to stay
Their quest is to please you well
And in time light a fire
There heaven to aspire
Satisfied to please you well

One night will not suffice
One lifetime, could entice
But now dreams say more please
We know each other now
And what life will allow
If only fate will not tease
Eternity our ground
When there is no more found
For a while we'll be at ease.

Question of Love

Love is made up of rock,
of a hard granite block,
rock shatters and turns to sand.
Love is light solid and tough
yet some way that's enough
when discovered it feels so grand.
But it's never a bore?
It's strength down to the core
a grip from a powerful hand?

Love is like a hot flame
yet its love that's to blame
warming lives as the years turn.
When trimmed it burns hot
but dies if it is not
it is love that creates that burn.
Like oil lamps shine their light
warming love every night
warming lives as each year turns.

Love is like a flowers bloom,
having an eternal fume
like an orchid dearly bought.
Such colour and perfume
easy for senses to consume
and act with feeling not thought.
In time no physical exists
but loves there and consists
of all things it's ever wrought.

Seasons in Cape Cod

Joined by the watchful sky
The night draws slowly nigh
Focussing on lessons taught
Present chatter silenced.
Night wind through trees advanced
And with it cold winds are brought.
Birds grow silent in their nests
Snuggle together breast to breast
As warmth becomes needy sought.

Clouds come, and with them rain
Trees sounding like aflame
But feel instead piercing cold
That drags life out the soul
Each drop extracts a toll
Creating victims for the mould.
Night settles peacefully
And clouds move westerly
As nature again takes hold.

-----

Tutti a Merda

What is left that we care
When only stars are there
The world is gone, all we love
Vanished into blackness
A hole, no scene, no mess
There is nothing to speak of
Then the hole is filled
Now's the time to rebuild
One huge bang from up above.

Six days is all it takes
To create the mistakes
That led us back here again
Starting with slates anew
Will we take another view
Or still greedy, proud and vain
Then the Gods cry "Enough!
We're tired of this stuff",
And then flush us down the drain.

-----

Vulnerable Cycles

Joined by the watchful sky
The night draws slowly nigh
Focussing on lessons taught
Present chatter silenced.
Night wind through trees advanced
And with it cold winds are brought.
Birds grow silent in their nests
Snuggle together breast to breast
As warmth becomes needy sought.

Clouds come and with them rain
Trees sounding like aflame
But feel instead piercing cold
That drags life out the soul
Each drop extracts a toll
Creating victims for the mould
Night settles peacefully
And clouds move easterly
As nature again takes hold.

Then doth she cast out bait
When early blooms risk fate
And early spring brings them out.
Very soon comes a spell
Sending them all to hell
Again there is death all about
For a while winter 'turns
But never a concern
For then is bet another drought.

-----

'xtempore 4

Impatient words spoken
Too quick as a token
Of any rational thought.
If love is what's to speak
Best judge, it may be weak
And that love too easily bought.
A quick word is just that
Not making eyelids bat
And duels to the death be fought.

Other words when spoken
Mean not, heads be broken
They're just words spoken in fire.
The young may act on it
With age sometimes comes wit
Realising words aren't worth ire.
With greater wisdom found
We never hang around
Aches and pains we don't require.

-----

Zenith

Scent splash on ivory mounds,
How strong the heart now pounds
Colours melt swirling shapes divine,
Hear whispers in deeper voice
Moon glow lights passions choice
Now's the chance for love to dine
Stockings discard, as winds drift
Shimmering pools, passions shift
Sharing their love in passions wine.

Lips shine in candle light gloss
Goose bumps rise on ribs emboss,
Tickle belly sides, and soft spoke tips
Eyes promise, soft capture,
Lovers hand creating rapture
Creating their own mighty eclipse.
Feather breath, voiceless words
From eyes with shining chords
Until mews of pleasure from those lips.

Cosmic Fantasy

In the depth of a dream
Fantasies reign supreme
Pathways within realms in space;
Stepping stones to the stars
Betwixt Earth moon and mars,
Where figments of dreams interlace;
Shooting stars show the way
Thro` a magic mystical spray
To the land where angels grace.

Earth spirits arise to find
A haven of another kind
Thro` mists of cosmic showers;
Creations of peace within
For a new life to begin
Sunsets amidst the bowers;
Amidst celestial rainbows
While Kaleidoscopic shows
Shades of unearthly flowers.

-----

Dawn Above Clouds

The beauty of the Dawn
On a perfect clear morn
As it rises above earths clouds;
Like ripples in the sea
Clouds appear to me
As soft as cotton shroud;
To fly beyond blue skys
This magical moment high
Of this Earth my heart is proud.

To fly high in the skies
Shows morning in disguise
While the dreams of poets flow;
Upon a red canvas dawn
Artisitic words are drawn
From the beauty it doth show;
To captivate the mind
Years past we were once blind
If we never flew, who would know.

Imaginary Friend

I think I saw a fairy
Amidst yon meadow clary
She turn`d to me and smiled;
But she never spoke a word
It may have been absurd
I guess she was something wild;
But still recall this day
I think I saw a fae
But then, I was only a child.

-----

Just Kids

Do not let them see you
They are listening too
Hide and whisper if you dare;
They do not miss a trick
On uptake they are quick
For images they mimic and share;
Like father is like sons,
They are not the only ones,
It`s a whole new World out there.

You may think they are quiet
It`s then they cause a riot
When you think they are saints;
Sweet angels they may be
But how they learn you see
They are really rather quaint;
The culprit may be you
Like parents they will do
When they dabble in the paint.

-----

Old Rocking Chair

I saw my Grand Ma there
On her old rocking chair
Even when I knew she had gone;
Last words were she`d return
To rise above from her urn
Buried `neath the garden lawn;
Her promises she keeps
It was just like she sleeps.
Restful for all she`d undergone.

It was her time to rise
A spirit that never dies
Rocking in her rocking chair;
The tales she used to tell
Weaved within her spell
Restless returns again to share;
A sceptre of the night
That never meant to fright
Sitting in her rocking chair.

-----

The Vigil

There by his bed all night
With him on his last fight
Saddened and empty inside;
Could he live another day
All she could do was pray
Can the Lord turn back the tide;
To save him from this pain
And render him whole again
Pray please help him she cried.

Once she had been his bride
love that they could not hide
Memories flowed thro` her mind;
The perfect love they had
Their life was not so bad
An understanding they did find;
How can it come to this
Gone is their life of bliss
When this grief was so unkind.

Blowing in the light wind
Five thousand flags of friends
Just one grave site of Soldiers
Millions of people shown
Respect of those unknown
Past and present laid soldiers
Silent prays said at noon
In tribute freedoms tune
For past and present soldiers

Bag pipes, drums and trumpets
Music not to forget
The past and present soldiers
Planes fly; one breaks away
In honor on this day
For past and present soldiers
God Blest these brave young men
Never be forgotten
The dead past; present soldiers.

We'd move loving hearts, it seems.

Reason A Poteet

A Whole 'Nother World

In other worlds out there
kids hide and say a prayer.
Dad's only care is his booze.
This child gets up alone,
her hunger to postpone;
Mom needs the mornings to snooze.
She must go to the bus
without making a fuss;
there's no sense gettin' a bruise.

In other worlds out there
kids scowl and say a prayer.
"Everybody's got a Rebelle!"
This child grumbles in bed
taking short breaks instead
from rising to throw her spell.
She picks at the menu
no matter the venue.
School is where she catches hell.

In other worlds out there
kids toil and say a prayer.
Their sponsors relish hard work.
This child shifts to wheelchair
from his bed to prepare
for days with many-a-jerk.
After being spoon-fed,
a helmet on his head,
it's school where new trials lurk.

In other worlds out there
kids smile and say a prayer.
Dad helps with homework and play.
This child wakes to voices
mom cooks his best choices,
pancakes for breakfast, hooray!
He goes to school filled up,
He comes home to a pup
who brightens his sunny day.

So far from anything
Just sitting here waiting
And like a dream you appear
Perhaps you are a dream
More real than it would seem
Our time together draws near
Patience tells me to wait
By the incomers gate
Then happily you'll be near.

-----

Juno

The woman from the stars
Talks with the man from mars.
The jealous sun hides his face,
Knowing he can't have her
But he can't help but care.
But she is from outer space
How can she love the sun?
His life has just begun,
Eternity has no place.

Time's Dilema

Now day returns again
Love isn't down the drain
Instead carries on anew.
Time together flies by
Too soon the day will die
Then wrapped in love "Adieu".
With the dawn love goes on
An endless union drawn
Until time itself is through.

But does time ever end,
Like night and day descend,
Or just merely change its state?
A greater night and day
Perhaps this is the way,
And really only abates!
Endless is what it means
A variety of scenes
Each one with love at the gate.

Colours of May

Purple are my flowers,
bending under showers'
power, dripping with cold tears.
Brooding skies loom leaden,
burdened senses deaden;
black haunts future's untold fears.
As weeping willows wave
above forgotten graves,
bells toll loudly loss of years.

Pink radiates my May,
as roses crowd out gray.
On every thorn tears are shed-
shining in morning's dew,
they mirror life anew.
Fresh flowers lift up their head,
each droplet holds a world;
from buds new leaves unfurl
in splendour- black veils are shred.

-----

Flying with clouds

One last push with my feet,
I'm on my way to meet
my love, traveling on a cloud.
Down below glows the land,
sunshine lightens the sand-
colourful with summer crowds.
We sail above the sea,
gulls joined to fly with me,
bring me safe to you, they vowed.

A day that doesn't end,
at dawn we will descend-
we journey forward in time.
Passing mountains and isles,
going thousands of miles-
still higher my dreams now climb.
Clouds flock to keep me warm,
before us looms a storm;
E.T.A. is set at prime.

-----

Judging

Intentions brought to nought?
Fie, my dear, for such thoughts...
Life's road is hard to travel;
think positive might aid-
bring sunshine to your shade.
Life's knots will then unravel.
Have patience, persevere,
sweet victory comes near-
Life's judge will strike his gavel.

Knight of Hearts

Thy heart, my knight, I'll hold

thy chaste kiss I may allow,
until that day foretold.
Thy cloak and sword, with gold

and tread on precious folds-
a kiss to ease thy tired brow?

-----

Lost Race

Man-made light hides stars' glow-
polluting nightly show
of sparkling gems on satin;
As ancient gods look down

bright lustre fades and flattens.
"Mankind, beware!" gods cry,
"when Earth is forced to die-
your race will lose its baton."

-----

Pleasing the senses II

My tongue traces your lips
as your hands hold my hips;
hot skin fusing, wild hearts race.
Throbbing veins' attraction-
watching is perfection-
eyes drink in your glowing face.
Fingers travel upwards,
conquering wavering guards;
backs stretch in perfect embrace.

-----

Reflections

My sky is overcast
as sunshine wouldn't last;
temperature is dropping fast.
Past days were warm and bright,
transfigured by your light-
we both know the die is cast.
Are we just stepping round
in dances we once found
a joy- changed into a blast?

My world might be changing,
used to quick arranging,
challenges I face with grace.
New horizons glimmer;
though your light might shimmer,
steadfast love can't be erased.
As future still withholds
chance glances- time unfolds
if warm fingers interlace?

Star-wish

In the blink of an eye
I see a star shoot by;
from my heart escapes a wish.
My eyes follow its trail,
watch it catching star's tail-
connection's made with a swish.
Joined they light up the sky,
I wave a fond goodbye.
Will they be caught on a dish?

Oh please II

Oh please slow my heart
That mad galloping part
Out my chest it wants to fly.
That pounding in my ears
Wherein my reason cheers
Just to reach heavenly high.
Oh please smother me now
How much do you allow
And now knowing, deny?

Pleasing the senses II

My tongue traces your lips
as your hands hold my hips;
hot skin fusing, wild hearts race.
Throbbing veins' attraction-
watching is perfection-
eyes drink in your glowing face.
Fingers travel upwards,
conquering wavering guards;
backs stretch in perfect embrace.

Queen of Hearts

Had I the cloak to lay
Thy feet would ner be wet
My Queen step forth without fear.
My cloak, my sword is thine
In swearing thus, my life
Is thine beyond forever more
A kiss is all I seek
Thy lips on mine tis all.
Why not, thou hast my heart.

Knight of Hearts

Thy heart, my knight, I'll hold
as future's buds unfold;
thy chaste kiss I may allow,
until that day foretold.
Thy cloak and sword, with gold
adorned, prove thy knightly vows.
My feet should not be bold
and tread on precious folds-
a kiss to ease thy tired brow?

Nights

Nights were made for loving
Kissing, hugging; rubbing
And the day returns to soon
Day seem to long; to long
stirring all day love songs
Each tune excites; you soon croon
How thankful to be home
And collapse on the foam
Until day returns to soon.

Day

Now day returns again
Love isn't down the drain
Instead carries on anew.
Time together flies by
Too soon the day will die
Then wrapped in love "Adieu".
With the dawn love goes on
An endless union drawn
Until time itself is through.

Tonight

Tonight I wish of you
What all lovers should do
And spend the night together.
One night under the stars
The world shall become ours
On a night like no other.
We will learn how love is
For you, and I know this
That there can be another.

Tonight

Our night will be blissful
Professing; bountiful
No heavenlier is felt
loving nurture's be grown
Sweet music, tender moans
Our hands felt, touched we melt
Our wit does best devise
Love renewed our heart ties
Assuring, our love is svelte

The Hidden Stars

The stars are weeping tears
Hidden in the atmosphere
People are wondering why.
It's been to long we've seen
Twinkling stars look serene
Crystal tears roll down their eyes
Abused from humans wrought
Wasting away distraught
From thickly coated grey skies.

Peggy

One stars tears another's joy

Those thickly coated skies
Are welcome to our eyes
Heralding winters wet gift.
Above the stars may weep
But with joy as tears seep
Into the earth and spirits lift.
Natures rules forget man
They are naught in her plan
And mans will soon get short shift.

Ryter Roethicle

Lost Race?

Man-made light hides stars' glow-
polluting nightly show
of sparkling gems on satin;
As ancient gods look down
upon us with with deep frowns,
bright lustre fades and flattens.
"Mankind, beware!" gods cry,
"when Earth is forced to die-
your race will lose its baton."

Leny

The Winner

This race lost its baton,
For love still marches on;
As stars above shall glimmer,
No man can follow this,
His path of light he'll miss
Like vagrant lust felt for sure,
That cannot at all be true,
The sky will ever blue
Be, love the only winner.

Kathy

Stars And The Wandering Mind

The only winner, love
Be in the stars above
At ease to enchant love thoughts
Flashing mime; futures time
Pages to fill love rhymes
Discovered, felt effects sought
My mind dazzled; beguiled
Positive thoughts compiled
Loves free gift; stars and mind brought

Peggy

Extraordinary!

Only the stars are free
Extraordinary!
And yet love cannot be bought
The stars and moon will shine
Hearing lovers say "I'm thine"
Knowing there has been no thought
Save what's thought in a rush
Or a sexual ambush.
Stars intentions brought to nought.

Ryter

Judging

Intentions brought to nought?
Fie, my dear, for such thoughts...
Life's road is hard to travel;
think positive might aid-
bring sunshine to your shade.
Life's knots will then unravel.
Have patience, persevere,
sweet victory comes near-
Life's judge will strike his gavel.
