Owl and the Child

The Child

Mr. Owl they tell me
That you don’t sleep at night
That you spend time thinking
About what’s wrong and right
I hope you can help me,
It’s quite bewildering
Grown ups say ‘Don’t do that!’
Then do the very thing.
I am so muddled up,
My thoughts are running wild
Please explain it to me
I’m just a little child.

The Owl

I can well understand
Why you are so confused
Adults are a strange lot
They leave me quite bemused;
They preach to you children
Constantly, that is true,
Telling you “Just do as
I say, not as I do.”
But in time you will learn
To make the correct choice,
Your heart will speak to you,
You’ll hear your inner voice.

The Child

They tell us not to cheat,
They say it is a crime.
Yet some of them do it
Easily, all the time.
If I say ‘I hate you,’
They tell me that’s not right,
Yet they dislike others,
I’ve seen them curse and fight
. We’re always being told,
We’re not to drink or smoke,
But we see them do it,
It really is a joke.

The Owl

God bless you little one,
I truly pray that your
Conscience will guide you and
Your heart will remain pure.
May the road before you
Be paved with happiness
Don’t ever allow
Anything to suppress
The flame that burns in you;
May it ever shine bright.
But it’s getting late now
It’s time to say good night

Owl and the Young Girl

The Young Girl

Excuse me Madam Owl I’ve come today
To ask your opinion on an issue,
It seems to me it’s alright for young men
To do things that I’m not supposed to do.
I’ve tried to live by values I’ve been taught,
To respect myself and my fellowman
But it’s so difficult now that I am
Sore tempted to come up with a new plan.

The Owl

My dear hold fast to what you know is true,
And even when you think you stand alone,
For though there’s often room for give and take
There are some precepts that are cast in stone.
Don’t do things because some say they’re okay
When you know deep inside that they are wrong,
Don’t be afraid to dance to your own drum,
Or to dictate the lyrics for your song.

The Young Girl

Oh Madam Owl your words do comfort me,
I promise I will try my very best
To not be swayed by things that are not right
Although I know I'll be put to the test.
And I’ll come back to tell you how I’ve done
So you can guide me further ‘long the way
If I succeed I’ll owe it all to you.
Your help means more to me than words can say.

The Owl

I wish you everything that’s good young miss,
May you grow stronger with each passing year
If you continue on the path you’re on
There’ll be no need for worry or for fear.
Go now the world awaits your youthful drive,
So many things out there for you to do,
Keep close at hand the things that you have learned
And I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Owl and the Young Man

The Young Man

Master Owl it is said that you are wise,
And that you see the world through different eyes,
They say your heart is pure as purest gold,
And that no lie by you has e’er been told.
Speak to me so that I can understand,
Why some women behave the way they do
And why at times they choose to turn away
From a genuine heart that’s tried and true.

The Owl

My brother, I will attempt to explain,
A woman is a thousand and one parts,
Difficult for you men to comprehend
What causes pain or brings joy to their hearts.
And that aside dear fellow you must know
Each one is quite distinct, one of a kind,
For every woman that God put on earth
As many differences you’re sure to find.

The Young Man

But surely there is some way we can tell
When they’re in love, at least that should be clear,
If not how else are we poor men to know
If our hearts’ desires even care.
Most of the time we are left in a fog
Not sure if to turn left or to turn right,
I’m hoping Master Owl that you can help
Me with this problem, shed a little light.

The Owl

Well you must follow what is in your heart,
If something’s right you’ll feel it deep inside,
And if it’s wrong you’ll know it and will have
To face it, let your conscience be your guide.
And then of course you have to realize
There’s good and bad in all of us you know,
You will meet some girls who are perfect gems,
Others too badly flawed and some ‘so-so."

Owl and the Femme Fatale

The Femme Fatale

Oh wise owl I hope you will understand,
I really am in a bit of a fix;
I’ve found myself in quite a stew I fear,
This time I’ve gone too far with my old tricks.
I have been popular most of my life,
Have had more guys that I can count I swear,
But I’m entitled after all I am
Lovely, leastways that’s what I always hear.

The Owl

Perhaps you are pretty on the surface,
But what I see inside holds little charm,
An ego so inflated you cannot
See beyond it, and happily cause harm
To those around you, by design or not;
You are contented once you get your way,
Conveniently unaware it seems
Of havoc that is wrought by games you play.

The Femme Fatale

For all my life I’ve watched men run around
From girl to girl like cannons on the loose,
So I decided long ago that what’s
'Good for the gander' should work for the goose.
It makes me feel that I’m the one in charge
Its fun to have guys dangling on a string,
What a laugh to see grown like babies,
Practically on their knees sniveling

The Owl

It really pains to hear you speak like this,
Girls like you give womanhood a bad name,
Your behaviour is such that we are bound
To shake our heads, for others get the blame.
The gander as you call him gets away,
People excuse him, say ‘that’s natures’s law’
That men will run around, whilst girls like you
Will simply be called something else I’m sure.

The Femme Fatale

Mr. Owl I had hoped you’d comprehend,
That sometimes people do what they must do,
We have to look our for our Number One,
In my case Me, in yours it should be You.
Sometimes men need to be taught a lesson,
I learned that early on, sometime ago,
It does not take them long to realize
I draw the lines that they must learn to toe.

The Owl

Foolish female, in time you’ll come to see
Though you capture the hearts of many men,
They may well be disinclined to trust you
Will need to know your every ‘where’ and ‘when.’
Loath to leave you alone for a moment,
Checking your every phone call, all your mail
Questioning your every word and movement,
You’ll find yourself in a proverbial jail.

Owl and the Philanderer

The Philanderer

Hey Brother Owl I am sure that you know
Just how it is for guys like you and me,
Life is a game and we’ve come out to play,
To have a good time but be fancy free.
I really want to ask you just one thing
Because I do believe that you are wise,
Do you think it is wrong that sometimes I
Resort to telling different women lies?
I mean no harm, it’s just convenient,
Most of the time they swallow them with ease,
And though off and on someone may get hurt,
My motto really is “I aim to please.”

I do it really just because I care,
And so I tell them things they want to hear.

The Owl

My friend we look at things quite differently,
But you’d do well to hear what I now say
For ever hurtful thing that we’ve ever done
We will be called upon somehow to pay.
Think twice before embarking on your next
Escapade, you may find yourself in for
A big surprise; you’d best believe it’s true,
‘What goes around will come around’ for sure.
Today you may be master of the world
With many women swooning at your feet,
But sometimes without warning you will find
That things change in a flash, in a heartbeat.

You’re a man I can’t tell you how to act,
I only hope my words have some impact.
