Italian Octave

This octave well used by Petrarch had no set form or line length and was used as a vehicle for his poems including his sonnets. Later Spenser formalised it to Iambic Pentameter. The suggested pattern is:

x X x X x X x X x a
x X x X x X x X x b
x X x X x X x X x b
x X x X x X x X x a
x X x X x X x X x a
x X x X x X x X x b
x X x X x X x X x b
x X x X x X x X x a

Nature

Given any chance at all new life begins
Growing, forming, shaping adapting to strife
This is the challenge Nature puts on life.
It thrives and shapes and lives and fits within
Each plant mutates and has adapted so
And every year with the start of Natures round
On looking close a new shoot is found
Having laid for months asleep in snow.
