Dark Red Rose....Burns Sonnet

You came in the house smiling,
Whilst clutching a dark red rose
Which you had found so beguiling
As you held it up, close to your nose.
Then you offered it to me to smell
Which I did and shared your pleasure.
A lovely fragrance we could treasure
Pleasing us so easy, and oh so well.
The simplest things bring such joy
So long I have known it to be true
Yet sometimes you seem to be coy
But that is you playing like you do.
I have no fear now as time goes by
For you have taught me how to fly.
