No Sound Was Heard....Reverse Ottava Rima Sonnet 1

I heard no sound in the trees today
The birds were silent as they mourned
And the wind did not disturb in any way.
The death of winter was forewarned
Its struggle will always be to stay
But death, and dark, and cold is scorned.
No sound was heard in the trees today,
It didn’t mean that nature had gone away.
I heard no sound in the trees today
The pains of spring’s birth ease for awhile,
But the signs are that it is on its way.
The northerly winds will make a trial.
And magpies swooping their human prey
In the end will serve to make us smile.
