As We Celebrate Our 5oth. Anniversary of Independence....Sonnet Trinidad On August thirty first we’ll celebrate Our fiftieth year of independence Our nation will honour that special date With song, dance and festivities galore With parades by all the country’ s defense Forces – a flag delivered to each door; But we must give thanks too, beg for mercy, For though we’ve achieved much and should be proud Some things are not the way that they should be In our beloved twin island paradise We are living under an ugly cloud That’s costing us far too heavy a price. On August thirty first we celebrate But we must give thanks too, beg for mercy. |
