Caught....Sicilian Sonnet I'm caught within a sticky spider's web; in struggling to escape without success, its vice-like threads imprisoned me, now press against my throat- I feel my power ebb. I stepped into its path when I walked home; I watched the flowers, listened to birds' song, inhaled the fragrant air, the earth smelled strong. Above me, whispering tree-tops formed a dome. I'm desperately trying to break free, but clinging cords are tightening instead- cold fear is creeping closer, gripping me. Alarm bells shake my body, break the dread. I realize the nightmare lost its hold, dive deep beneath my duvet- I am cold. |
