If walls could talk....Shakespeare Sonnet

If walls could talk, there were no secrets left,
each tilt or loving word would be retold.
Once given voice, hot tears of those bereft
would be out in the open, not controlled.
Conspiracies no longer were contrived
and back-room policies would lose all sense;
could trust and honesty perhaps revive
when gossip lost attraction and pretense?
Would that it could, yet there is not much hope,
as walls don't talk, only the echoes stay -
just audible to someone with clear scope.
There are few witnesses to passion's play.
What rests, are choices each of us must make,
remember, it's your self-respect at stake.
