Construction X....Terza Rima Sonnet I have been witness to barbaric rites; in my own street, right opposite my room, earth's tender belly- ravished by brute bites. Her bowels were laid bare, removed her womb, machinery was digging out each root; Peace gentle reign gave up, replaced by doom. Defenceless earth, though trodden on, stayed mute while deep inside her metal walls were raised; pneumatic drills drove out bird-song's salute. A huge black hole was dug where once green blazed, was filled with concrete poles and thin black lines; to build new housing, trees and fields were razed. Men wearing yellow coats were shouting hard, They didn't care about the earth thus scarred. |
