Summer of 2012....Blank Verse Sonnet Drought has given our garden pause for loss Caused untold effects on each fruit and vine Our fruit has dropped prematurely to find Early signs of wither in brown and ochre With yellow stems, too few the pods on vines Suddenly stop as August cools the roots Further strangling growths efforts of life To seek sun for vegetable plumps stay dwarfed. Only when steady rains sodden the earth Promote fatter produce that redden soon Noons heat once boon rather than dread swoon In green under ripe tomatos rot Even slugs won't eat nor moth abide worm It's cocoons sprung elsewhere than our garden. |
